This site provides information on best practices for genebank management. It will give genebank management operation procedures for several major crops (under the "Crops" menu on the top). It was created by the System-wide Genetic Resources Programme (SGRP) under the Global Public Goods - phase II project (GPG2).
If you want to have a quick look at the current ongoing work (amount and type of information gathered) click on work in progress that links to the current wikis (wiki WebPages used to gather inputs from various collaborators), final documents (the regeneration guidelines that are ready), draft documents (the best practices drafts that are ready and current version of the 'ISO for genebanks' document) and background documents (all reference materials that we have been collected for the best practices).
If you are an activity leader of any activity of GPG2 and wish to link your work within our website, please contact us.
The GPG2 project builds upon GPG1, completing the work to bring facilities and operations to high level, taking advantage of the opportunities that the Centres have for working together to take collective action.
This will enhance and streamline the CGIAR System’s management of Global Public Goods through the development and sharing of knowledge and setting of standards, and achievement of efficiencies of scale especially with regard to crops held in common across the CGIAR System. The scientific, technical and managerial know-how generated by the work to optimise the operations of the genebanks will have the additional benefit of positioning the CGIAR to contribute to the development of a global system involving a wider community of partners.
The CGIAR Centres will achieve effective stewardship of their in-trust collections and provide leadership to partners in developing a global crop-based conservation and use system.
This website has been established to achieve Output2 of the GPG2 project and has been coordinated by Bioversity International and implemented with ILRI and a System-wide Task Group (all Centres) and experts on ISO standards and carried out through Activity 2.1. of Output 2.
